Ende der 60er-Jahre protestieren Studierende in Europa gegen Autoritäten. Zeitgleich zieht die rechtsextreme NPD in mehrere westdeutsche Landtage ein. Nach der ARTE-Filmpremiere diskutieren Regisseurin Kim Schibilla und Politikwissenschaftler Wolfgang Kraushaar, was uns der erste Rechtsruck nach 1945 über demokratische Resilienz lehrt. Während 1968 Studierende für mehr Demokratie protestieren, machen in Europa auch Rechtsextreme mobil. Die rechtsradikale Sammelpartei NPD zieht in Westdeutschland in sieben von zehn Landtagen ein. Parallel erprobt die französische Nouvelle Droite neue Strategien für die politische Rechte. Deren Vordenker lassen sich ausgerechnet von Strategien der linken Protestbewegungen inspirieren. Wie kam es zu diesem großen Rechtsruck so bald nach dem Ende der NS-Herrschaft 1945? An der Spitze der NPD steht Adolf von Thadden. Obwohl er dem radikalen Parteiflügel angehört, setzt er zunächst auf ein bürgerliches Erscheinungsbild. Doch das Auftreten der Partei erinnert zunehmend an die NSDAP. Viele befürchten, die NPD könnte 1969 sogar in den Bundestag einziehen. Auch ausländische Geheimdienste beobachten die westdeutsche Rechtspartei mit wachsender Sorge. So beleuchtet der Film Spuren möglicher Spionage-Operationen gegen die NDP, die bis in die Führungsebene der Partei reichen. Parallel dazu entsteht in Frankreich mit der Nouvelle Droite eine neue rechtsintellektuelle Strömung. Anders als die NPD setzt sie nicht auf Wahlerfolge, sondern auf langfristigen Einfluss in Medien, Kultur und öffentlichen Debatten. Die Dokumentation „Alte Nazis und Neue Rechte“ erzählt, wie sich diesseits und jenseits des Rheins neue rechte Bewegungen formieren, welche Rolle Politiker, Geheimdienste und Intellektuelle dabei spielen und warum die demokratischen Institutionen und die Zivilgesellschaft der Bundesrepublik und Frankreichs dieser Herausforderung letztlich standhalten konnten. Im Anschluss an die Filmpremiere diskutieren die Regisseurin Kim Schibilla und der Politikwissenschaftler Wolfgang Kraushaar , was uns der erste Rechtsruck nach 1945 heute über demokratische Resilienz lehrt.
